PayPal Popular Tool for Crooks Trying to Steal Your Money

PayPal is an ever-growing tool used by many people to do business online. But along with honest users simply trying to buy and sell, criminals are also taking advantage of the service. With websites like eBay and Craigslist, buying and selling online has become a huge chunk of the market. Even other websites allow PayPal as a form of payment for a good or service. But not everyone is out to help you. Scammers are constantly claiming to send out money that you actually never receive. More importantly, they're phishing for your information to steal not just your money, but your identity as well.

Phishing emails are probably some of the most common scams you'll run into. The crooks are getting better at fooling people, so beware. You might receive an email claiming to be from PayPal, asking to verify your personal and bank account information. Remember, PayPal will never ask you for these things through an email. The email looks legitimate, but it's important to note that scammers are getting very good at faking emails - including the email address and websites they might have you visit.

More recently, the fake emails are sent with the goal of getting you to send the scammers money. When you're selling an item, a scammer will often offer to pay much more than the item is worth. They'll send you a certain amount of money, and then you have to send your item and wire the money back to them before it's released to you. Since people were catching on pretty quickly, the crooks started sending emails from fake PayPal accounts. The email, looking like a legitimate message from PayPal, would essentially state the same thing. You've receive your money, but it can't be released to your account until you've wired a big chunk of it back to the buyer. In reality, PayPal will never have you do something like this, and wiring money to anyone is a huge red flag that something is wrong.

Perhaps all of this information has come to you too late. You or someone you know has already been scammed, or you think your identity has been compromised. PayPal has a few ways for you to contact them and let them know your story. You can report a PayPal fraud and learn more about identity theft and how to report suspicious activity at PayPal's website ( http://www.paypal.com ).

How Do I Create a Recurring Payment Plan in PayPal
PayPal recurring payment plan allow users to bill customers a mutually agreed amount of money on fixed schedules. By this, online websites that sell products with monthly subscription fees can charge their customers automatically on fixed date after a week, a month, a quarter, or twice in a year. It is up to the user to create a recurring plan that suits business needs. In simple words, PayPal recurring plan is a process that allows periodic payment transactions for a fixed amount of money from online customers.

Things to Know

PayPal recurring account is only available for PayPal Business and Premiere accounts. When a user set up a recurring payment plan through a merchant account for a customer, PayPal creates a separate profile for each customer for recurring payments that include information like the amount of money, start date, frequency of payments and other details like tax and shipment cost. The start date must fall after the creation date as current PayPal recurring payment API cannot ask customers for old payments.

Before creating a recurring payment plan, it is good to learn about the terms and other conditions on PayPal website. The recurring payment plan also allows users to start an optional trial subscription period followed by a regular payment period. Users have an opportunity to set up a different payment cycle and payment amounts for trial period. Once satisfied, you can start a regular plan with details provided below.

Steps to Follow

Once you learn about the terms and other conditions associated with PayPal recurring payment plan, you can follow these simple steps to create one.

First, log in to your PayPal merchant account.
Go to Merchant Services > Key Features > Subscription & Recurring Payments.
Once you click the "Subscription & Recurring Payments" and follow the online directions to fill in the dialogue box.
Add Item Name and Subscription ID (For those who use Inventory management feature of PayPal).
You will create a button that can be customized according to your needs. These options include a choice between subscribe or buy now button, language of your preference for checkout window and button, choice for appearance of button and an option to add a drop down list that includes choices related to products or services.
PayPal also allows you to choose a currency for payment transactions.
Enter the amount that you want to bill your customer for each frequency.
Choose one of the options for Billing Cycle from the options like day, week, month and year. You also need to enter the number of billing cycles after which the recurring payment plan expires. (What is Billing Cycle? Billing cycle is when payment is made. The unit specified for billing period is day, week, month or year. The billing frequency is the number of recurring mentioned units. For example, if you choose "Week" for billing cycle and add billing frequency as 4, the payments will be made after every 4 weeks.)
PayPal also gives you an option to start a Trial Subscription period for your customer. Choose if you want to offer trial subscription period to your customers with different details like amount, billing cycle and billing period.
Go to Merchant Identifier and select plain text email address.
Users that are also using Inventory management feature of PayPal can also set up inventory track.
Additional Details

You can also mention if you want details like customer's address and contact details, add URLs for cancel & success pages.
Just Click on the "Create Button" and you are done.
Once you are done with the steps mentioned above, you will receive two sets of codes. One is a link to use in an email and other is for your webmaster. The code for your webmaster will create a button that you designed above on your website that will also set up a link between your website and PayPal.The email link is for marketing purpose that you can send to your customers.

By following the above mentioned process, you can now easily offer services and products with monthly and weekly subscriptions and PayPal will take care of your timely payments from customers.

Affiliate Marketing Training - Urgent PayPal
Who online has not heard of or used PayPal? For many, PayPal is a clearinghouse which facilitates buying and selling items on the internet, very similar to online banking. For most, this is all they need to know. However, for those involved in Internet Marketing, nothing could be further from the truth.
The author owns a report and is an affiliate to a system called "Really Fast Money". Like many systems, the individual components are not unique, but put together they create a dynamite package for raising considerable revenue in a relatively short time period. The report was purchased via PayPal.

The author of the report is Willie Crawford, a well known and highly respected veteran internet marketer.

Some time ago, Mr. Crawford received a notice from PayPal informing him that his account was frozen, and that the "Really Fast Money" program was suspended at paypal. Having the integrity that he is known for, he contacted all of his affiliates and granted master resell rights to retool the program for individual marketing if so desired. (HIGHLY recommending NOT using PayPal, of course. :-)

HALAMAN SELANJUTNYA:

After an extended period of trying to resolve the problem and regain access to his assets, Mr. Crawford learned that several of his affiliates in the "Really Fast Money" program were "overly aggressive" with their marketing and in violation of PayPal's "acceptable use policy".

The issue here is paypal's vague "acceptable use policy". This policy, as it relates to Internet Marketers, covers the area of Multi-level marketing and Pyramid and Get Rich Quick programs. This policy includes affiliate programs that pay more than "one tier" of commissions.

Herein lies the important difference between your local "Bank of America" and PayPal. Where the Bank of America handles your money and will report suspected illegal activities to the proper law enforcement authorities, PayPal may, at its discretion, take action on your account if they deem your actions are in violation of their policies. In effect, they ARE the enforcement, whether your actions are legal or illegal.

In their own words ..... "PayPal prohibits as a Multi-Level Marketing plan any business in which payouts occur at two or more levels (both by the individual who actually sold the product, as well as by the person(s) "upline" that recruited the selling individual). PayPal prohibits Multi-Level Marketing plans whether or not they are legal under the laws of one or more jurisdictions."

Hence, PayPal does not merely serve as a custodian for your legally earned monies, but they also serve as discretionary monitors of what they perceive to be socially and/or ethically improper behavior.

The key phrase here is, "what they perceive". This author will freely admit that he has products in his tool chest that could be 'teetering on the tightrope' of PayPal's "acceptable use policy". Do these products offer benefits through intentional deceit or misrepresentation? Absolutely not! However, is it just a matter of time before PayPal drops the hammer? Is it time to investigate these policies further? Yep!

Someone once said that "to live in fear is to not live". Well, that certainly may be true, but what about "Ignorance is no excuse"?

Being a man of action, Willie Crawford has put together a 50 page report which, this author believes, is REQUIRED reading for any current or prospective online affiliate marketer. Furthermore, this report is FREE ... Mr. Crawford's way of giving something back to the community that has provided him the vehicle by which to chase his dreams.

This article, and Willie Crawford's report ARE NOT indictments against PayPal ... to enter into a position of mud slinging would be cowardly and totally ineffective. Remember, PayPal is a subsidiary of eBay ... they are HUGE. It is not uncommon in the corporate world for a business, any business, to reach a point where prompt, individualized service is just not practical. If they have rules, it is YOUR responsibility to learn them and abide by them ... Especially if you are coordinating your business finances through them!

Willie's report includes a section devoted to taking a look at the very popular $7 Script through the eyes of PayPal. This is must have information if you plan on using this very productive script.

Hopefully, this is one case where you will choose to take action. This report, "Seller Beware ... How to avoid PayPal's lethal game of Pin The Tail On The Internet Marketing Donkey" is available, at no charge, to all. (See Resource Box). Get your copy, read it, and take it to heart. Don't place all of your bets on the infamous "It won't happen to me" .... Doubts? ... Ask Willie!

How Does PayPal Work - Understanding PayPal
PayPal today is not a payment system: it's a suite of many different payment systems. Paypal is located in San Jose, California. It was founded in 1998 and was acquired by eBay in 2002.
Paypal is one of the most popular trade names in ecommerce. There are over 50 million users who utilize the services of Paypal.

Here the payment transfers are done via e-mail payments.

The parties between whom the payment is exchanged cannot see each others credit card or bank information. It is somewhat similar to an escrow payment because it holds the money for the two parties thereby acting as a middleman.

HALAMAN SELANJUTNYA:

Paypal keeps the information of its customers in an encrypted form. No one can decrypt the confidential information.

This specialty makes Paypal one of the safest gateways of transactions. Paypal is ideal for money transactions between strangers. It doesn't matter which part of the globe you are sitting in.

Only two main requirements are essential to open a Paypal account, a valid e-mail address and a valid credit card or bank account.

Though Paypal is free for the buyers, the sellers have to give a fee of 1.9% to 2.9%.

The money is withdrawn from the buyer's credit card or the bank account and there is no cost involved in paying the money to the Paypal users. Paypal will charge only if you receive funds in your account.

Paypal also works when you want to make payments to an online store apart from making payments to friends or business associates.

There are three types of paypal accounts; Paypal Personal account, a Paypal Premier account and a Paypal business account.

The features of the personal account are limited. Even though you can send and receive money to and from other Paypal account, you cannot receive money from credit cards or debit card payments. To activate this facility, you have to upgrade your status to a Premier account.

The fee structure is slightly different and you can get the details on the Paypal website. The Business account is best suited for people who are having huge business set-ups or are running large online stores.

It is useful if your transactions involve complex deals. You can always upgrade your existing Paypal account to the Business account. The process is very simple but you have to check the site to have a look at the fee structure.

Indeed, Paypal has become one of the most significant tools in eCommerce today.

What PayPal Doesn't Want You to Know About Their Protection Programc
Online shopping has never been so popular. These days, more and more people are using online marketplaces such as eBay to shop for their needs. Buying online is not only convenient, but it empowers buyers. They can use comparison engines such as Froogle and PriceGrabber to get the best prices and save money in the process. And best of all, you don't have to physically present in a store to be able to buy things.

PayPal has been around for such a long time, and it makes it so easy to pay for things online. Anyone who has used eBay in the past few years has probably used PayPal to pay for items on eBay. PayPal is so popular that more online stores are adding PayPal as a payment option. After all, not only it's convenient, but also it's a very secure option for both sellers and buyers. Or is it?

HALAMAN SELANJUTNYA:

PayPal promises a lot to both sellers and buyers. Most people use PayPal as they find it to be secure and easy-to-use. However, hackers have managed to access numerous PayPal accounts in the past, and that problem is only getting worse. Hackers access people's accounts by sending them fraudulent e-mails to gain access to their account information. Unfortunately, there is so much PayPal can do to avoid this issue. So it is essential for the consumers to go to PayPal by clicking on any email link.

PayPal offers protection to both buyers and sellers against fraudulent activity. PayPal's seller protection program protects sellers against unjustified chargebacks and reversals. But the protection is not foolproof, as sellers are not protected against "Significantly Not As Described" claims.

Buyers are also not fully protected by PayPal's buyers protection program. While you can dispute transactions that you have done via PayPal, it does not protect you against items that you have bought on other marketplaces than eBay. In addition, the complaint process is very time-consuming, and there are many loopholes that PayPal can use to reject you complaint. Worst of all, PayPal does not cover non-physical products. That means if you purchase a website on a marketplace such as SitePoint, PayPal will not protect your purchase against fraud.

In most cases, it is better to only add credit card accounts with $0 fraud liability to your PayPal account. That way you can dispute your transactions with your credit card company regardless of PayPal's decision. PayPal is a wonderful service that helps millions of shoppers has a rich online shopping experience on a daily basis. However, the protection provided to buyers is not nearly enough. By using a PayPal credit card account that protects you against fraud, you can shop online more freely, knowing that your transaction is protected regardless of the loopholes available in PayPal's protection program.

Make Money Using PayPal - The Convenient Online Payment System
PayPal is an online payment system that allows people to purchase goods or service from a seller in a safe secure manner without disclosing their credit cards or bank accounts to the seller. The PayPal system collects the money from the buyer and gives it to the seller. It acts as an intermediary. When good are not delivered the PayPal system will intervene. They will often penalize the seller by revoking their account if they are unable to get them to return the buyers money.
The system is more impartial where good are concerned rather than where services are concerned. In certain instances, they will not intervene if services are involved since they cannot impartially determine if service was indeed rendered and to what extent. Therefore, you need to be cautious when purchasing services using PayPal with the knowledge that you could loose your money with no one to help you.

HALAMAN SELANJUTNYA:

The PayPal service is free to occasionally and casual users. However, businesses are charged a small percentage of the sale. In order to make money with PayPal you must have something to sell. There is no other way to make money with PayPal since it is just a middle man for the collection and disbursement of money.

The service that PayPal provides is very valuable and is a useful asset in making money online. If you sell goods on eBay, it is easy to receive payment with PayPal. The PayPal system is integrated into the eBay system and at the time of this writing, eBay actually owns PayPal. To use PayPal on eBay there is nothing additional that the seller has to buy. All they need to do is to sign up for a free PayPal account.

Some sellers are unable to open merchant accounts in order to receive payment by credit cards. This is because the requirement for holding a merchants account is rather stringent and lengthy and people with poor credit may not have access to this, but usually they can get a PayPal account.

You can also receive payment from your internet marketing activity via PayPal. The PayPal system makes it easy to add payment buttons to your website or for Affiliate Sellers to pay their marketers via PayPal.

The PayPal system has the capability of attaching to your credit card or bank account so that when you make a purchase the money can come directly from your credit card or bank account into your PayPal account and on to the merchant.

Now that you know what PayPal is, you may wish to sign up for an account. I find it very easy and safe to pay for things online with this system.

How to Accept Merchant Payments Using PayPal
How to Accept Merchant Payments Using PayPal
If you want to take credit card orders on your Web site, and don't already have a payment system in place, consider PayPal. It used to be cumbersome and limited but it's improved so much that it's now a widely-used and globally-recognized payment system for any Web site - big or small.

In its early days, PayPal was inconvenient to use for your Web site, because your customers had to be PayPal members before they could pay you. This meant that they had to go through a laborious sign-up process at the PayPal site. However, PayPal recently removed that restriction, and now allows anybody to pay you using PayPal, even if they're not a PayPal member (non-members simply pay by credit card).

HALAMAN SELANJUTNYA:

The money goes into your PayPal account, and you can transfer it into a regular bank account at any time.

PayPal charges a very reasonable fee of 2-3%, which compares very favourably with a merchant account from a bank.

What do you use it for?

PayPal is ideal if:

You don't have a credit card merchant facility yet; or
You do have a merchant facility, but you don't want to pay for a "payment gateway" to link it to the Internet; or
You want to take payments in some other currency than your local currency.
You want to take payments for arbitrary amounts (donations, for example).
You want to set up recurring payments (monthly subscriptions, for example).
Getting started

Just go to the PayPal Web site and sign up. It's free, and easy to do.

Your PayPal account is connected to your e-mail address, so use an e-mail address that you know you will keep forever.

The basic PayPal account is a Personal account, and you should upgrade this to either a Premier or Business account in order to take Web site orders. There's no charge to upgrade, but read the PayPal site carefully to decide whether you need Premier or Business.

Because PayPal handles money, after you sign up, it goes through a few verification tests to ensure you're a legitimate user and can be connected to real bank accounts and credit cards. For example, when you connect your bank account to PayPal, it will deposit two small amounts in the account and then ask you to confirm the amounts (to prove you have access to the account). This adds a bit of extra work to the sign-up process, but it's only slightly inconvenient.

Taking payments

After your account is ready, simply go to the Merchant Services area of PayPal and create Buy Now buttons for each product and service you want to sell.

PayPal takes you through the process of creating each button, where you specify the product name, price, currency and other information it needs to complete the transaction. It then gives you some HTML code to paste into your Web page (If you don't manage your own Web site, send this HTML code to your Webmaster).

That's it! Customers who come to your site click the Buy Now button, it takes them to PayPal for payment, and after the payment you get an e-mail notifying you of the order. You can then send them the product.

If you're selling electronic products, such as e-books or webinar registrations, you can tell PayPal to send the customer to a specific page after they pay (for example, the download page or the webinar registration page).

If you want to take recurring payments, such as a monthly subscription, you simply specify that when setting up the button, and PayPal takes care of charging the customer at the right time.

Which Is Better: PayPal or a Merchant Account

Recently, in one of the Facebook groups I participate in, the question arose again. Should one use PayPal or a merchant account in one's business? I used to run marketing teleseminars weekly for a merchant account vendor and this question came up on almost every call.

PayPal: Let's Review

You're probably all quite familiar with PayPal. It's a third party processor. You, the merchant, never see your customers' credit card information. PayPal collects it and puts the money into your PayPal account. From there you can spend the money by paying for things with PayPal, using the PayPal debit card to spend the money, or transferring it to your bank account, which takes about 2-3 days.

You don't need a shopping cart to use PayPal - you can create buttons right in PayPal to use on your site or in emails. There are many carts that will integrate with PayPal, however, should you want to use one.

HALAMAN SELANJUTNYA:

Typically, the merchant is charged 2.9% of the transaction to use PayPal. There are better rates available for merchants with higher monthly sales.

What About a Merchant Account?

A merchant account allows you to take credit cards directly. You will have a relationship with a vendor, such as DirectPay, PowerPay, Stripe, or even your own bank. Behind them will be a gateway, such as Authorize.net or Verisign that allows transactions online. It's the account information for your gateway that you will set up in your shopping cart in order to accept payments.

While you can manually enter transactions with a gateway, for most online sales, you will want a shopping cart to work with a merchant account.

Merchant account fees are often pretty complicated. There will be per transaction fees. They will be something like 2.6% plus 30 cents per transaction. No-swipe fees - when you don't swipe the card, such as in online purchases, are higher. You will almost always have a monthly minimum for the fees. If it's $25 for example, if your transaction fees for a month add up to $25 or more, you're good. If they don't, you will be charged the difference between what they add up to and $25. You will also have a monthly statement fee - usually around $10 - and a monthly gateway fee - also usually around $10.

Whew! Pretty confusing, huh? And it seems like all those fees must make it cost more than PayPal, right? Not necessarily. I'll get into that in just a bit.

The money from a transaction will automatically be deposited into your bank account in 2 days.

What Do Customers Think?

Does using PayPal affect how customers view your business? Will they avoid buying from you if you only accept PayPal?

When I started my business more than a decade ago, PayPal was seen as the more amateur choice for smaller vendors who couldn't afford a merchant account. Online business was just getting going and a merchant account allowed the online vendor to look more like an offline 'real' business.

It's different now. There are very reputable and big businesses who use PayPal. I don't feel the image of a business is harmed by using PayPal today.

So How Do You Decide?

It really comes down to two things. The first is financial. Even though merchant accounts have all those costs, there is a monthly sales point where PayPal's higher transaction fees will be more than a merchant account's lower transaction fees plus all the other fees. Do the calculation for a particular vendor and see how it fits with your projected sales.

The second factor is customer service. I've never had a problem with PayPal, but others have. I also know some online marketers whose merchant account suddenly stopped functioning in the middle of a big launch. If you have a merchant account, you will most likely require support at some point and I prefer phone support for potentially complicated issues around online transactions. So if you're contemplating getting a this type of account, do some research, ask your colleagues, and pick one that has a good reputation for customer service.

What do I use? I used to have a merchant account, and now I use PayPal. I've never had a serious problem with either, and never had a customer who found it questionable that I use PayPal.

So remember, this is just your next decision, not your last one. You can always change your mind!

After Checkout, It's PayPal Singapore
2 days after Google ushers in Checkout, PayPal sends an email announcing opening of new regional HQ in Singapore. PayPal Private Limited, as it'll be called, will cater to PayPal's non-US, non-EU customers effective 1st August, which is a month from now. In a way, this was destined to happen, and hopefully the new dispensation will offer improved services.
To its credit, opening and using PayPal account is very easy. One only needs a verified email address to get going. When PayPal scented opportunity in online payment business there were only a handful players in the field. Keeping it easy makes PayPal the most accepted face among countless small online business owners. Though PayPal charges good amount for its services, people take that in their stride. For most of them, PayPal remains the only choice, because, among other reasons, setting up one's own payment gateway is prohibitively costly.

HALAMAN SELANJUTNYA:

Yet there are grumbles and often, frayed tempers. Getting answers from PayPal is never easy. Sometimes it would seem that all your fervent pleas are falling on deaf ears. For small entities, there is yet another problem. You wouldn't be able to lay hands on your money unless it reaches a threshold limit - usually $150. When eBay acquired PayPal, its business soared manifold. Sellers on eBay are urged to use PayPal as preferred payment mode. However, more often than not, sellers outside US, EU and other rich countries receive PayPal payments after a long delay. This is not the case if you prefer direct delivery of selling amount to you, and in so doing you can also avoid hefty PayPal check-making charges. Adding up, one gets the idea that ebay+PayPal combination is not equally helpful for all sellers. There are other concerns too. PayPal's resource-rich information attracts hordes of hackers and online-thieves to prey upon. This means that on many occasions, for none of your deliberate wrong-doing, you may have your legitimate account frozen along with whatever money there is in it. As PayPal spread far and wide, the problems above should have prompted it to diversify and systematically organize its services in time. That was not to be, until Google arrived on the scene. Google's arrival is rumored from April last. So ultimately PayPal rolled up its sleeve and started serious thinking. Singapore's proposed set-up is an indication of that. One hopes that PayPal's Singapore unit will address customers' problems with alacrity. For one, why not facilitate direct bank-transfer of payments for its customers, say in India, like PayPal does for its customers in US, EU and few other countries? Checkout is presently only for US buyers and sellers. There is no doubt Google will offer the service elsewhere too in near future. For AdWords users, Checkout is expected to be a boon. Who knows, as time passes, Google may even entice Governments to use its discounted service for different revenue collections. Google is not known to play second fiddle in whatever it does. So Checkout will very shortly become a serious contender to PayPal. It is unlikely that PayPal users will unceremoniously dump it in favor of Checkout (as and when it becomes available). In any case, Checkout's features are still in evolving stage. In all probability, it would be that PayPal customer will also become Checkout user and weigh pros and cons before choosing one over another. To that extent, PayPal still has some time.
